About Shiloh, Illinois
Shiloh incorporated in 1905 with 51 residents and now has a population of about 14,572 across roughly 11 square miles. The village sits just off Interstate 64 at exits 16 and 19, about 20 miles from St. Louis by the village’s own reckoning.
Memorial Hospital East, a 94-bed facility on Cross Street, opened in Shiloh in 2016. The Shiloh-Scott MetroLink station is the eastern terminus of the Red Line, which runs through to Lambert Airport. Of its 645 parking spaces, 421 are reserved for military, which tells you how much of this village’s daily rhythm is tied to Scott.

Buying a Home in Shiloh, IL
Shiloh has the newest housing stock of the Metro East communities we cover. The median year built is 2000, and 55.9% of all homes here went up between 1990 and 2009. That means fewer of the original-systems surprises you get in older suburbs.
What to weigh before you make an offer in Shiloh:
- School district is the big one. Four separate PK-8 districts serve Shiloh addresses, and they do not all feed the same high school. See the schools section below, and verify by parcel before you write an offer.
- VA financing is everywhere here. With Scott AFB adjacent and partly inside the village, VA buyers are active year-round.
- New construction is still going. The village currently markets The Summit of Shiloh, the Wingate master-planned development, and 1301 at Hartman Lakes.
- About a third of homes are not single-family detached. Detached houses are 64.2% of the stock and 74.1% including attached townhomes and villas, so there is more attached product here than in neighboring towns.
- Owner-occupancy is 63.2%, lower than Swansea or Fairview Heights, which reflects both the rental demand from the base and the newer attached housing.
Schools in Shiloh, IL
This is the section to read twice. The Village of Shiloh’s own education page lists four separate PK-8 districts serving village addresses, and they do not all feed the same high school. Two families a few streets apart can end up in different districts and different towns for high school.
The four PK-8 districts serving Shiloh addresses:
- Shiloh Village School District 85: Shiloh Elementary (PK-3) at 125 Diamond Court and Shiloh Middle (4-8) at 1 Wildcat Crossing, both in Shiloh
- Central School District 104: Central Elementary (PK-4) on Hartman Lane and Joseph Arthur Middle (5-8) on Saint Ellen Mine Road, both in O’Fallon
- Whiteside School District 115: Whiteside Elementary (PK-4) on Lebanon Avenue and Whiteside Middle (5-8) on Warrior Way, both in Belleville
- Mascoutah Community Unit District 19: Wingate Elementary (PK-5) at 150 Wingate Boulevard is physically in Shiloh but is a Mascoutah district school
That last one is the trap. District 19 is a K-12 unit district, so a family buying in the Wingate development attends Wingate Elementary in Shiloh, then Mascoutah Middle and Mascoutah High School, in a different town entirely. A neighbor in District 85 goes to Shiloh Elementary and then to an O’Fallon or Belleville high school. Same village, completely different twelve years.
Shiloh students otherwise feed into O’Fallon Township High School District 203 or Belleville Township High School District 201 depending on the address. We are not going to print a boundary line here, because the split is not published by either district in a form we can verify. Shiloh Village District 85 maintains a district boundaries page, and that plus a call to the district is the only reliable answer.
